Capital Trees was thrilled to partner with the Richmond English Speaking Union for the incredible visit from Mayor and Mayoress Pyne from Richmond upon Thames including a scenic photo op at Libby Hill Park, a tour of our Low Line project, a wonderful reception at the Virginia House, and a dinner on Friday. Throughout the visit we shared about our cities' shared passion for vibrant greenspaces. It was inspiring to hear about Mayor Pyne's dedication to volunteering weekly at Kew Gardens! Just like our Capital Trees volunteers, he understands the joy of tending to beloved gardens. Their sunny blooms help all of us shake off the chill of winter and usher in the beauty and energy that accompanies springtime. With this week's mild temperatures, it's hard to believe the in-progress Hotchkiss Green was covered in snow just last week. ❄ We stopped by and loved seeing the footprints in the snow. They're evidence that even in the middle of winter, folks are already taking advantage of the walking trail that we've installed. And the greenspace isn't even finished yet!

Capital Trees has been invited to play a role in an upcoming event, and you're invited, too! The Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, Councillor Richard Pyne, will be visiting our Richmond next month, March 6-8 as a guest of the Richmond Chapter of the English Speaking Union.

March 6 Events:
👉 11am - All invited to attend Libby Hill Viewshed Photo Opp with the two Mayors, at Libby Hill Overlook
👉 6:30 - 9pm - All invited to a Reception at Virginia House - RSVP required

A bit of history — in 1737, William Byrd, II gave Richmond, Virginia its name when looking out over the James River from Libby Hill. He exclaimed that the view looked like the majestic Thames River in Richmond, England.

Today, the Thames Landscape Strategy is working with local community groups and volunteers to deliver improvements to the Thames River corridor. Their aim is to conserve, promote and enhance for the future, one of the world’s great river landscapes.

Councillor Pyne will meet with Mayor Danny Avula, opening opportunities to share best practices in river landscape preservation and management.

In keeping with our one of our core values; Capital Trees is Inspiring: We lead through forward-thinking partnerships and imaginative design, and bring the most innovative thinking from around the globe to Richmond.

Hotchkiss Green Project Update: When the weather w

Hotchkiss Green Project Update: When the weather warmed up a bit at the end of January, the crew was able to install the trees, shrubs, and mulch in the future pollinator garden, rain garden, and other beds. Most plants and trees are dormant right now, but it won't be long before it all starts budding out and waking up for spring.
