The Republic Services Charitable Foundation suppor

The Republic Services Charitable Foundation supported the Hotchkiss Green project with a generous National Neighborhood Promise grant. With their support, we’re in the process of transforming almost two acres of space at the Hotchkiss Field Community Center. Renovations include walking trails, seating areas, lighting, shade trees, a pollinator garden, and native plants, shrubs, and trees. The Republic Services team joined us in November for a National Neighborhood Promise Day to volunteer their time planting 20 new trees at the project site, marking the first plantings for the new green space. We’re so grateful for the support from @republic_services, and were thrilled to have the team on site to make a hands-on impact.

It’s that time of year again when we make resolutions for the upcoming year. And in case you need a little inspiration, how about a greener 2025? Our advice?
🌳 Make time at least weekly (or as often as possible!) to go for a walk or bike ride outside, in nature. The Low Line welcomes visitors 365 days a year, and is beautifully landscaped alongside the @virginiacapitaltrail between Great Shiplock Park and Richmond’s Canal Walk. Bring a friend, or your furry companion, and reap the benefits that spending time in nature affords us.
🌳 2025 is another opportunity to renew support for the causes you care about. Whether that’s signing up to volunteer, or setting up a monthly donation, consider investing your time and dollars with organizations that are near to your heart. Project update! If you're new here, our latest project, Hotchkiss Green is under construction. We're excited to share the latest on the progress so far. Reclaimed timber from another City of Richmond community center renovation has arrived on site for use in the natural play area. The permeable asphalt trail paving is complete along with most of the major site work, including excavation for the rain garden and berms! As we close out this calendar year, you will see smaller detail work being completed: smoothing the trail edge, grading soil along the trail, placing the final reclaimed logs, and stabilizing the site for the winter to prepare for landscape installation in the early spring. We have a dedicated page on our website where we share updates about Hotchkiss Green periodically, head to the link in our bio to check it out.

Capital Trees is committed to building a greener and more vibrant Richmond by increasing tree canopy and developing transformative public green spaces. Trees are the cornerstone to this effort. 🌳 We partnered with public, private, and government groups to plant 90 trees in the Richmond region last year. Our goal is to plant over 100 trees throughout Richmond next year; a gift of $300 can help support the planting of one new tree and a recurring monthly gift of $300 would help support our ambitious tree planting goal.
