This time of year we always spend some time reflecting and expressing our gratitude. Join us in thanking each and every volunteer who has contributed their time to making Richmond a greener, more liveable place for all of us this year. From community work days along the Low Line, to tree planting days at community parks, to garden clean ups at the Boys & Girls Club — members of our community step up time and again. Under the guidance of our horticulture expert, our core group of weekly maintenance volunteers have become experts in their own right, developing their knowledge base and leadership qualities which will benefit our community for years to come. This group braves challenging weather of all sorts, and remains committed to caring for the living, breathing spaces that are our urban gardens — amassing over 600 volunteer hours over the course of this year. Thank you for your unwavering and ongoing support, we truly couldn’t do it without you.

Orb-weaver spiders always help us decorate the Low Line for Halloween🕸🕷. Their webs are perfect for spooky season, and their presence is also a great indicator that we're successfully managing our gardens in an eco-friendly way.

Last month, we hosted @kimleyhorn for a private workday at the Low Line Green. We needed help managing weeds there, which isn’t a glamorous job, but it’s necessary to ensure the health and beauty of our urban green spaces. They tackled the weeds, and made a huge dent. We know we're jumping ahead a couple of seasons, but we have exciting news to share! In honor of our upcoming 15th anniversary as an organization, we're hosting a celebration on the first day of spring — the evening of Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Main Street Station. We encourage you to save the date! Stay tuned for additional details, we'll have more to share in the new year. 🎉

Pierce Arrow Properties volunteered with us last f

Pierce Arrow Properties volunteered with us last fall, and they returned a couple of weeks ago for another day in the gardens. We were thrilled to have them back! They worked together in Great Shiplock Park to prepare the beds for daffodil bulbs to be planted. They also began prepping one of the beds along the Low Line Gardens for fall planting as well. As the weather cools, we're not closing up shop for winter. In fact, much of what prepares the gardens for a successful spring starts now. Thanks so much to this group for another successful workday!

It's official! Construction has started on our lat

It's official! Construction has started on our latest large scale project at Hotchkiss Field Community Center — "Hotchkiss Green." If you haven't heard, we're transforming just under 2 acres of turf that surrounds the center into a thriving green space, complete with shade trees, pollinator gardens, walking trails, and more. From community engagement, to fundraising and permitting, we've been hard at work behind the scenes to get to this point. We'll be sharing updates during the construction process to keep you posted, stay tuned for updates!

We'll have a table at the Plant Native! Festival this Saturday October 19th, sharing information with attendees. Come say hi, and then pick up a native plant (or several) to add to your garden — you know what they say, fall is for planting! Adding perennials to your landscape now allows them to develop strong root systems all fall, winter, and spring before the extreme heat and drought hits our area in the summer.
