Capital Trees is committed to building a greener and more vibrant Richmond by increasing tree canopy and developing transformative public green spaces. Trees are the cornerstone to this effort. 🌳 We partnered with public, private, and government groups to plant 90 trees in the Richmond region last year. Our goal is to plant over 100 trees throughout Richmond next year; a gift of $300 can help support the planting of one new tree and a recurring monthly gift of $300 would help support our ambitious tree planting goal. One of the essential components for plants and trees to thrive? Water!💧 While some of our gardens have irrigation, and we plant drought tolerant plants when possible, irrigation is not available in the late fall through early spring when new plants are getting established. Ensuring that our plants and trees have adequate water is a year-round endeavor and a great opportunity to set up a recurring gift, for this recurring maintenance need. Thank you to our volunteers! This year, we've led community, private, and weekly workdays totaling over 1600 hours of volunteer service. Thanks to the consistent contribution of time from our volunteers, we manage our gardens with eco-friendly practices. That includes hand pulling unwanted plants and weeds rather than using harsh herbicides. Pulling weeds before they go to seed requires many volunteer hours, but is an essential part of reducing the seed bank in the gardens.
