We needed help managing weeds there, which isn’t a glamorous job, but it’s necessary to ensure the health and beauty of our urban green spaces. They tackled the weeds, and made a huge dent. In honor of our upcoming 15th anniversary as an organization, we're hosting a celebration on the first day of spring — the evening of Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Main Street Station. Pierce Arrow Properties volunteered with us last fall, and they returned a couple of weeks ago for another day in the gardens. We were thrilled to have them back! They worked together in Great Shiplock Park to prepare the beds for daffodil bulbs to be planted. They also began prepping one of the beds along the Low Line Gardens for fall planting as well. As the weather cools, we're not closing up shop for winter. In fact, much of what prepares the gardens for a successful spring starts now. Thanks so much to this group for another successful workday!

It's official! Construction has started on our lat

It's official! Construction has started on our latest large scale project at Hotchkiss Field Community Center — "Hotchkiss Green." If you haven't heard, we're transforming just under 2 acres of turf that surrounds the center into a thriving green space, complete with shade trees, pollinator gardens, walking trails, and more. From community engagement, to fundraising and permitting, we've been hard at work behind the scenes to get to this point. We'll be sharing updates during the construction process to keep you posted, stay tuned for updates!

We'll have a table at the Plant Native! Festival this Saturday October 19th, sharing information with attendees. Come say hi, and then pick up a native plant (or several) to add to your garden — you know what they say, fall is for planting! Adding perennials to your landscape now allows them to develop strong root systems all fall, winter, and spring before the extreme heat and drought hits our area in the summer. Richmond Tree Week kicks off tomorrow, and with 40 events spread out over 10 days — there's something for everyone! Check out Reforest Richmond's full list of events to see how to volunteer, snag a free tree, join in on a tour, and learn more about trees.

🌳You can catch up with Capital Trees on Wednesday 10/16. In the morning, we're hosting a volunteer workday, tours of the Low Line featuring plant identification, and a tree giveaway. That afternoon, we'll hop over to Hotchkiss Community Center from 4pm - 6pm for another tree giveaway, and we're offering tours of our current project site: The Hotchkiss Green.

With nearly 15 years of experience creating urban green spaces in Richmond, we've learned a thing or two worth sharing. Church Hill Association invited Capital Trees to design the planting plan for enhancing/renovating the gardens at Libby Hill Park. This past weekend, members of the City Parks and Recreation Department and neighborhood volunteers worked to prepare the garden beds, plant shrubs, and mulch them to suppress weeds. @chaofrva @rvaparksandrec
