Last month, the team from Hanbury (along with Capi Last month, the team from Hanbury (along with Capital Trees Board Member Katrina Van Orden) volunteered their time at the Hotchkiss Field Community Center. They worked together to transform the garden bed at the entrance by removing the overgrown weeds and replanting the bed with native and native cultivars of shrubs, forbs, and grasses. Their hard work was on display for the recent ribbon cutting and makes for a welcoming entrance to the center — thank you @hanbury.design!

Neighbors of all ages stopped by to connect with local organizations, enjoy hands-on activities, and celebrate the power of greenspaces to bring people together. Remember, the Hotchkiss Green is always open to visitors — if you missed the festival you can stop by any time to enjoy the walking trail and community greenspace.

April was #EarthMonth and we were busy! Our staff, April was #EarthMonth and we were busy! Our staff, board members, and volunteers were at several Earth Day events throughout the month, engaging with members of the community and connecting with other local organizations. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to learn more about our work. We’re always grateful for the opportunity to inspire people to take action together and invest in the wellbeing of our city, our environment, and each other.

Back in March, we participated in the 12th annual Back in March, we participated in the 12th annual Dave Tate Urban Forestry Service Day at Byrd Park. Several local organizations and tree experts came together in Dave’s memory. Together, arborists performed maintenance on the existing trees in the space and we worked with volunteers to plant 15 new trees to help add shade to the park in the coming years.
