The Lovely Lynden Daffodils are in bloom at the Lo The Lovely Lynden Daffodils are in bloom at the Low Line. Do you know their history? They’re named for Lynden Miller, a trailblazing public landscape designer from New York who has mentored many of us here at Capital Trees. We worked with Brent and Becky Heath of @brentandbeckys to create a new cultivar of daffodil and named it after Lynden to honor her work. They’re planted at the Low Line, and we recently added them to the Hotchkiss Green. Learn more about Capital Trees and our long history with daffodils on our recent blog post, linked in our bio. 👆
4 days. 8 shifts. 221 volunteers. 6,000 trees plan 4 days. 8 shifts. 221 volunteers. 6,000 trees planted

In March, we partnered with Henrico County on our largest tree-planting initiative to date! Henrico County purchased 10,000 trees from the Virginia Department of Forestry, and we jumped in to help them plant 6,000 of them at Nuckols Farm Elementary School. We set out to bring together hundreds of volunteers, including work groups and community members, to get their hands in the dirt. The project site is in an area of extreme heat, making adding to the tree canopy there a vital endeavor for protecting residents from high summer temperatures. Together, we planted a microforest inspired by the Miyawaki Method. The approach is based on natural reforestation principles and is one of the most effective ways for creating forest cover quickly. The young tree seedlings are planted very closely together and grow much faster, accelerating the forest creation process and capturing carbon more quickly. The microforest planting at Nuckols Farm Elementary School is the first in Henrico County and the second of its kind in the Richmond area. The responsibility of creating a greener future rests on our shoulders today, and we would not have been able to accomplish such an incredible feat without the hundreds of volunteers who took time out of their busy lives to step off of the pavement, onto the grass, and into a fresh way of thinking. THANK YOU!

Another successful day is in the books adding to o Another successful day is in the books adding to our tree canopy in Henrico at East End Recreation Center. Thanks to the help of community volunteers we planted 25 trees in the parking lot medians, and near the retention pond and splash pad. As these trees grow in they will provide much needed shade to visitors. Thank you to everyone who came together to invest in the wellbeing of our community, our environment, and each other.🌳💚

Volunteers met us at Echo Lake Park in Henrico, braving a frosty morning to get 32 trees in the ground! We planted six different varieties of native trees, and were joined by individual community members and groups including folks from @timmonsgroup. Thank you to everyone who bundled up and got their hands in the dirt to help add to our tree canopy and increase biodiversity.
